iPad Magazine

Bing Map Integration

13 Sept 2011: Read our updated post here.

OpenBrolly will launch its iPad and iPhone Magazine creation service at Cineposium in Paris next week.

The service will enable textual, visual and interactive content to be in a magazine format, including video, database listings and forms. Example uses include beautiful brochures, stunning location guides, up-to-date manuals, compelling, interactive training materials and industry periodicals.

Bing Map Integration

OpenBrolly offers a full-service design and app creation service. Created magazines will be made available on the Apple App Store either for free or for a fee.

Where the magazine is intended for iPhone use the content will be refactored to suit the smaller screen. For Android tablets, phones and other similar devices, a special HTML5 mobile web site will be created bringing the content to a wide range of platforms.

A video demonstration of the app will be available soon.

Development: Tasting Popcorn

Popcorn.JS Demonstration

This is a tech blog by OpenBrolly’s Project Director, David Sim.

We keep an eye out for technologies that would interest our clients and Popcorn.JS turns out to be one that has particular potential.

Among other things, it provides a framework for synchronising video with web content. Some scenarios might help you visualise this:

  • A screen agency creates a video promoting key residential properties in its region. As the video runs links appear next to the video which, when clicked, takes the site visitor to a pre-prepared MovieSite(TM) web brochure for the property currently being shown on the video.
  • A travel destination creates a video which shows top attractions. Next to the video there are links to additional information, a list of nearby accommodation providers and a map of where the attraction is.
  • A training company’s video is complemented by direct links to the page in the printed manual, or to a quick “test yourself” quiz. In addition that part of the video could be favourited so the user can jump back to it later.

Video in itself is a powerful tool. Complementing it with maps, web links, text descriptions and any other web based content ramps it up from both a marketing and training perspective.

See a demo at Anchored Web (although at the time of writing their server was struggling to serve the video – not a weakness of Popcorn.JS)!

Contact david.sim@openbrolly.com if you have ideas for using the technology or want to know more about the potential.

HTML5 iPad Magazine

OpenBrolly is preparing to launch one of the first HTML5 magazine content management and distribution systems.

Benefits:

  • Low cost of distribution
  • Easily include multimedia – video, audio, images
  • Easily construct magazine editions using skills within the organisation
  • Pull content from existing websites to avoid rekeying
  • Immediate updates and correction of content
  • Most magazine content available offline
  • Works across most tablet devices, including iPad and Android, as well as on modern mobile phones.

ExpressBOX will enable organisations to easily manage and create compelling magazines delivered over the web to the iPad and most other tablet devices and suitable mobile phones. It offers an opportunity for organisations to reach millions of tablet owners with attractive and compelling content, updated as often as required. Magazines can include text, images, audio and video.

As well as allowing magazine editions and pages to be readily managed through an easy to use text editor, expressBOX can source content from existing websites or databases. It can also offer interactive content – such as a directory search facility – within the magazine.

The magazine is distributed using a high speed network, maximising speed and reliability of delivery.
